Who Are You?

I was just camping with my wife and son. One of the carnal rules of camping is to clean up the campsite before laying down for the night, especially food and scraps. One of the big reasons for this is to prevent animals from coming around at night and finding food. Some of these animals can carry diseases and it is a good idea to keep them away. If there is food around, they will be around, too. Bears, raccoons, and skunks love a midnight snack. While it is great for them, they can do damage to campsites, tents, and people that happen to come in contact with them.

There have been times when I needed to catch a groundhog family that had burrowed under the sun room. I did a little research and found that groundhogs like lettuce. They like a lot of other things, too, but I had lettuce on hand. I bought a live trap, and put the lettuce inside. The next day we had a groundhog that we could relocate to a more suitable habitat.

It only takes a little research to learn how to attract certain animals. A quick Google search will provide most of what you need to know to catch almost any animal, and most of the time it is very simple to do. Just follow the steps, and success will follow. However, if you try to catch a lion with lettuce or a squirrel with meat you may not get what you want.

The same is true with your life. You already have what you have attracted into your life. Maybe unknowingly, but you have nevertheless put out the bait and captured exactly what you have in your life. The problem is that most of the time we place the bait without thinking about what we are trying to catch. Let me explain.

When you were job searching last and went to the interview, did you realize that the interview was supposed to go both ways? You are supposed to be interviewing the interviewer to see if the job would be a good match for you. Instead, most job searchers carry a little desperation with them. It is almost like they sit there hoping that they will be picked, not unlike a fourth grade kickball game choosing teams, and no one wants to be picked last.

Darren Hardy, CEO of Success magazine, told the story of when he was searching for a wife. He wrote down all the characteristics that he wanted , all the way down to her eye color. As he sat back and looked at the list, he very wisely asked himself, “What kind of man would a woman like this be looking for?” He then made a list of characteristics that she may be looking for and set out to make himself into the person that he wrote down on the paper. It wasn’t long before he had attracted the exact person into his life that he wrote about.

When you want something in life, you have to be intentional about it. You can’t sit back and hope and think positive thoughts and expect everything to play out like you want it to. You have to create yourself into the person that is able to handle the things that you want. This is how you place the bait to catch the life that you want, and it is hands down the easiest route to getting the life you want.

Hope, pray, stay positive, and dream, but don’t skip the work on yourself. God has plans for you and He is in the people building business. To stay the same is to throttle down what God is able to do in your life. The last thing that I want is to go to Heaven glad for what I have accomplished for Him and then He pulls out the box of things that I could have done for Him and the blessings that I missed out on. Even more than that, all the people that would have been helped and blessed by me doing what God had said to do.

Think about what you have in life. Is it what you want? Where do you need to grow so that you can handle what you want? God wants to give it to you. He’s just waiting on you!
